Born? Yes, in Darmstadt, in 1947. Grew up there before moving to Wiedenest near Gummersbach, not far from Cologne, in 1961. A-levels 1966 in Gummersbach.
More relocations: from 1968 read English and German in Bonn, Tübingen, Oxford, 1971/72 assistant teacher in Banbury/Oxon. After that, Göttingen University where he added Russian to his portfolio. Ph. D. thesis on the translations from the English by the German author Arno Schmidt.
Moved to Hildesheim in 1978, taught at the local college of adult education where he was head of English, 1982 - 1986. From 1982 contract teacher at Hildesheim University; from 1986 lecturer and from 1992 assistant professor in applied linguistics and translation studies. Retired in 2010, moved to Dresden in 2011 where he still lives. From 2012, board member and 2018-19 chairman of Deutsch-Britische Gesellschaft Dresden e.V. (Dresden Anglo-German Association), Coventry coordinator since 2020.
